10 Major Video Game Mistakes Of The 2010s The Next Gen Must Learn From
6. Early Access Games
Early Access in premise is great. Letting people buy a game while it's in early access to help the developers identify bugs and issues while also getting to enjoy a game early seems like a match made in heaven. But it quickly became apparent that both independent and AAA developers alike couldn't be trusted to deliver on this premise.
For every Don't Starve, you have a hundred DayZs. While Don't Starve slowly added features and characters with every update until the game was at a stage where it could be released in full, DayZ was in Early Access for around five years and honestly the differences between the 2013 version of the game and the 2018 released version is laughable. Take this from someone who has one hundred hours on the damn game.
DayZ, Rust, The War Z, The Stomping Land and so many more, all take the Early Access system for granted.
Just because you can release a game with the Early Access system, doesn't mean you should. Sometimes it's better to wait until you've actually finished the game.
