10 Masterpiece Video Games You DIDN'T Play

5. Beyond Good And Evil

Deadly Premonition Agent Morgan
Ubisoft

Due to Beyond Good Evil and Evil's story, graphics, gameplay, and... basically everything else about it, this Ubisoft title is regarded as one of the best games ever.

But for some baffling reason, nearly every critic regarded it as average when it came out. Beyond Good and Evil was originally referred to as "a jack of all trades" by GamePro, "fairly mundane" and "hollowed out" by Edge, and "not much fun" by PC Gamer.

The fact that this brand-new IP came out during holiday season didn't help either since consumers were scrambling to buy the latest franchise title. It sold so appalling, its price was reduced by a whopping 80%., almost like retailers were trying to get rid of it.

As Ubisoft was also laser-focused on promoting Prince of Persia reboot during this time, the company didn't give Beyond Good and Evil the attention it desperately deserved.

Fortunately, the critics and the consumers inevitably learned the error of their ways. When people actually gave Beyond Good and Evil a chance, it received far more favourable reviews, was rereleased on later consoles, and inspired the creation of a much-awaited sequel.
