10 Mediocre Video Games Saved By ONE Amazing Feature
8. Sniper Elite: V2 - Bullet-Cam
While the more recent entries in the series have garnered much critical praise as it fleshed out its mechanics, the Sniper Elite franchise started out fairly limp with a single gimmick that saved it from mediocrity.
With pretty shocking AI, no real story worth mentioning, and the levels being surprisingly linear and enclosed, it all seems pretty unspectacular until you line up your first shot on a target and pull the trigger.
Suddenly your experience slows to the beat of a hummingbird's wing as you watch your bullet fly across the environment to make contact with whatever you hit. If you hit a human you then watch an uber-violent x-ray of their skeleton devastated by the impact of the bullet.
Hit an eye and you'll get to see it pop like a ping pong ball, and the less said about a testicle shot the better. If you happen to hit an explosive item or vehicles gas-tank you are also treated to them ripping apart in super-slow motion and scattering across the land.
All you need to do is whip out your side-weapon to experience the differing level of polish the sniping mechanics got to the borderline useless automatic weapons. If it wasn't for this feature being included chances are far fewer people would have picked up the title.
It is no exaggeration that it ever gets old watching a Nazi's innards fly across the battlefield in slow-motion..
