1. Red Dead Redemption
So if number 2. was a bit of a cheat then this is just like pressing 'Retry' on Gran Turismo when you're playing against your pal and you didn't get out of the blocks as quickly as you'd like. For my number 1. I've chosen two songs, albeit from the same game. First up is Jose Gonzales singing Far Away, as you travel across the border in Red Dead Redemption into Mexico for the first time. The expansive desert stretches out before you as the sun peeks over the vast ranges of orange rocks with your horse taking you further and further from your home and your family as you hunt to win them back. And to my second number 1, in fact my number 1 for this whole list. It comes towards the end of the game, when John Marston, the long-suffering protagonist's journey finally comes full circle and, after months of sacrifice and suffering, he is on his final ride back to his wife and son. Jamie Liddell's Compass begins to play unexpectedly as you pick your way down from the mountains, through the brush of the forest, and finally back to your ranch to find your family waiting for you. And there you have it, my Top Ten uses of Music in Videogames. I hope you enjoyed our journey through the years and, though I completely agree with my own list (why write it if I didn't, right?) I fully expect that it differs completely from your own.
