7. Tomb Raider €“ The Theme

tombraiderhistory_1-e1362151687705 When Tomb Raider first made an appearance in 1996, it wasn't just the beginning in a new era of combat, exploration, and immersive levels, it also ushered in the first of the (then next-gen) mascots. Lara Croft bounded onto our television sets in all her short-shorts, pointy-boobed glory, and instantly became a sex symbol for the guys and an icon for the girls. She was fit, fierce, brave, and had attitude in spades. A character so large needed her own theme tune, and boy did she get it. Composed by Nathan McCree, it's a booming anthem of adventure and empowerment that captures both Lara's thirst for excitement, but also her more delicate, fragile side. Since appearing in the original Tomb Raider, it's made cameos in almost every game she's been in since, and whenever it appears, whenever the first few chords trickle out from the 5.1, it never fails to give me a rash of gooseflesh.
