5. Super Mario Bros. Hearing It In A Bar Somewhere
There are some things that manage to transcend the medium in which they were first made popular. Cinema has things like Star Wars, where you don't have to have seen the awesome originals or the less-awesome prequels to know exactly what a Lightsaber is, what it does, and who it's used by. The world of books and novels and literature in general is littered with half-known quotes from To Kill a Mockingbird or Of Mice and Men, right through to the fact that everybody knows that Christine was Stephen King's murderous '58 Plymouth Fury even though a whole bunch of people haven't actually read it. The theme tune to Super Mario Bros. is one of those things. You don't have to be a videogame fan to know what it is. You don't have to know the difference between your RPG's, MMORPG's, or FPS's and you don't need to have spent your childhood with the little Italian plumber to know exactly what his theme tune is. It's such a pronounced piece of pop culture that it's even begun to eke its way onto the nightclub scene, and there's nothing I like more than to be hanging out in a bar, with a Jack in one hand and my lady in the other, and for that tune to start. No matter how it's mixed, no matter who it's by, it's always a pleasure to hear.
