4. Insane Loading Times
The single most frustrating thing about the Commodore 64 era was the utterly crazy loading times of some of the games. The loading process, in hindsight, was very memorable. This was largely thanks to the imagery (see Robocop example above), the aforementioned flashing horizontal lines and the often epic musical accompaniments (such as the Ocean music specified earlier in the list). However, at the time - particularly for a kid - it was the most excruciating endurance test one could possibly imagine. It was a particularly excruciating thing to have to endure when you'd just bought a new game. That first wait when you were desperate to play a new game was horrific.
