5. Bloater - The Last Of Us

In the world of fiction, there's truly no limit as to what a simple virus can do to the human race. The cause of basically everything bad in The Last of Us is the Cordyceps virus, a fungal parasite that, over time, turns an infected person into little more than a walking clump of tumorous growths.

Joel and Ellie have the misfortune of running into every different stage of the Cordyceps infection on their journey, from the zombie-like Runners all the way to the otherworldly behemoths, the Bloaters.

It's the latter that are the the biggest threats by a mile here. While the lesser Infected can be fended off with either your weapons or an upgraded skill, Bloaters are incredibly hard to damage - and, indeed, not all of them can even be killed.

When engaging a Bloater, the last thing you want to do is let yourself get grabbed by it. As soon as the thing gets within melee range, its fleshy limbs will latch onto you and pull you apart in a variety of utterly gruesome ways. That's certainly the last of you.
