Starfield is Bethesda Softworks’ next RPG, their first new IP in over twenty years. Slowly, with the release of Skyrim to Fallout 76, Bethesda have been losing their grip on the RPG scene. This is likely due to their games becoming popular in the mainstream, needing to cut the confusing parts out so that everyone can enjoy the product.

That said, Starfield is Bethesda’s chance to get themselves back on track. No multiplayer, no Preston Garvey, no getting arrested for punching chickens. Instead, we’re looking at a next-gen space RPG. What does that mean as of now? Once again, we don’t know but going off past experiences and a teaser trailer, the result could really go either way.

So, if you don’t know anything, how could this possibly be mind-blowing?

Well, as stated in my brutally honest confessions about Bethesda, their games are an event. The fact that they’re looking to try something new after twenty years, after they know people would buy Fallout 5 and will be buying The Elder Scrolls VI, really says something about the endeavour.

As an abused Bethesda fan, all I hope for is that they take notes on previous titles, swallow their pride and create a decent, fleshed out RPG worthy of the next-gen tagline.
