10 Mistakes That Led To WWE 2K's Downfall
7. Ditching Showcase
Showcase became one of the better single-player modes in 2K's arsenal when they proudly revealed it in time for 2K15. The mode took the best parts of older retrospectives on things like '30 Years Of WrestleMania' and the Attitude era, and retooled things to focus on specific feuds such as John Cena vs. CM Punk and Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels.
It was a good laugh, and well done.
The Steve Austin feature in 2K16 was an improvement too, but Showcase was removed entirely from the game line up by 2K17. Why the f*ck would they even think to do that when the mode was earning rave reviews for nostalgic brilliance? It didn't make sense, and it meant fans had no major single-player modes beyond MyCareer and Universe to play with.
Neither of those captured the same production levels or weight of history like Showcase did. Thankfully, 2K saw sense and brought Showcase back (in a big way with Daniel Bryan) by 2K19. Those two years without it were painful.
