10 More Great Video Games Based On Movies
7. The Godfather
In the mid-2000s, numerous films from the 70s and 80s were made into video games, such as The Warriors and Scarface: The World Is Yours. One of them was The Godfather, which was released in 2006 and was in the vein of open-world sandboxes such as Grand Theft Auto.
As a member of the Corleone family, you can traverse through 1940s New York where you can do anything you want. The city features rival gangs and can be taken down by destroying warehouses and compounds in order to put the Corleone family on top of the social ladder.
An intimidation system is also present where you extort business owners in order to gain experience as well as money. Finally, the game re-contextualizes events from the movie by making the player participate in famous scenes such as the murder of Jack Woltz's prized stallion and the assassination of the four families.
The Godfather was backed by its fun gameplay as well as several of the film's cast members reprising their roles. It even spawned a sequel in 2009 which expanded upon the gang dynamic and allowed the player to become don.
