10 More Great Video Games Based On Movies
8. Mad Max
1979's Max Max and its sequels inspired video games such as Fallout, Borderlands, Rage, and Twisted Metal. With its impact on pop culture, it may be surprising to find out that there aren't many tie-ins to the IP. Thankfully, Just Cause developers Avalanche Games released Mad Max in 2015.
The title is an open-world game and puts players in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Emphasis is placed on vehicular combat, particularly Max's ride, the Magnum Opus, which can be upgraded through parts found in exploration while adding weapons such as the harpoon and flamethrower.
Using the vehicle, Max can take down enemies and commit all kinds of vehicular slaughter. The game's hand-to-hand combat takes inspiration from the Batman: Arkham games with its free-flowing fighting, while resources and scavenging play a part when it comes to survival.
Finally, weather effects and natural disasters were added to make the world more lifelike.
Overall, Avalanche used their experience with Just Cause and integrated it successfully into the world of Mad Max. Though the game itself received mixed reviews and was overshadowed by MGS V: The Phantom Pain dropping on the same day, it has since gained a cult following.
