10 More Great Video Games Based On Movies
2. The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay was developed by Tigon Studios, a company founded by Vin Diesel himself. This 2004 game served as a prequel to both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.
The title tackles Riddick's incarceration inside a maximum security prison and expands on his relationship with bounty hunter Johns. The story also explains how the titular character obtained his eyeshine, an ability that allows him to see in the dark. Gameplay-wise, Butcher Bay is a first-person shooter with no HUD and focuses on stealth tactics.
A lot of freedom is also given to the player when it comes to dispatching foes. You could perform stealth kills with melee weapons or if you're feeling creative, destroy the lights to blind enemies while Riddick uses his eyeshine. Graphically, the game was compared to Half-Life 2 and Doom 3, which is a very impressive feat and showed that the title had great production values.
All in all, Escape From Butcher Bay stems from Diesel's passion for the Riddick character. It is considered not just a great movie tie-in, but one of the best Xbox titles of all time.
