10 More Insane Lies Told On Video Game Box Art

9. Bubsy 3D - Fake Reviews In Abundance

The '3D' in Bubsy 3D's title obviously refers to the trio of dimensions the hateful bobcat struggles to traverse in this wretched PlayStation outing, but it could just as easily stand for 'three deceptions', in reference to this porky-filled cover.

For one, there's the very prominent EGM quote in the upper quadrant, whose liberal uses of ellipses immediately belies its duplicity. Bubsy 3D is "stunning" and "original", so it claims. Those words in context - as part of a preview, no less - actually had little to do with the game itself.

Then there is the laudatory praise from PSExtreme magazine, to go alongside their much coveted Gold X award. Or at least, it would have been much coveted had it, or indeed the publication, actually existed.

So what did EGM actually think of Bubsy 3D, back on planet reality? Oh: the seventh worst console game of all time. Not exactly "stunning". "Stunning"ly bad, maybe.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
