10 More Video Game Bosses That React To You Being A Jerk

6. The Griffin - Dragon's Dogma

Turnabout is fair play, as is so hilariously evidenced by the punishment for deception in Dragon's Dogma.

In the quest "A Troublesome Tome," players are tasked with locating the magical tome known as Salomet's Grimoire for an NPC called Steffen. Once you've obtained it, it's then up to you whether you hand over the real article or give Steffen a forgery for your own selfish reasons.

But if you think it's just a bit of cruel fun to mess around with Steffen, you'll pay the price for it later on during the "Griffin's Bane" quest, where you're required to take down a troublesome griffin.

If you gave Steffen the legit Grimoire, he'll rock up and use the tome to helpfully cast some fire magic, making the battle easier.

But if you gave Steffen the forgery, his attempts to help out will naturally flop immediately, leaving you to deal with the griffin by your lonesome.

Oh, and Steffen will also now be suspicious of you for the rest of the game. Well done, was it worth it?

Though this isn't strictly a case of the griffin changing its behaviour because of your selfish act, it does nevertheless fundamentally change the nature of the boss fight.
