10 More Video Game Sequels That Completely Missed The Point

9. Sonic Unleashed

Hands up if you're surprised to see a Sonic game here. If you raised your hand then, honestly, there is no hope for you.

Plenty of Sonic games could have snagged a spot on this list. In fact, Lost World even appeared on the previous one. Still, the woefully bizarre Sonic Unleashed deserves its flowers for immaculately fumbling what makes this franchise so fun - speedy gameplay.

Unleashed is yet another 3D Sonic game that makes too many strange choices, the biggest being to turn the titular hedgehog into a werehog. Just what the fanbase always wanted?

That decision is supposed to be the unique selling point of this title, as it splits the game into two. In the blue hedgehog's regular form, you'll get what you expect, with fast-paced rush gameplay. However, when he turns into a werehog (a bizarre thing to write for sure), you're treated to meandering, slow-paced beat 'em-up sequences.

So, you've got a mascot whose whole schtick is "gotta go fast" and thought, "Let's break the game up by slowing it down to a crawl." What a big-brained move from the devs.
