The only thing that could have dethroned Zelda as the most addictive game of the year had to be something special. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is more than just special: it's a bonafide phenomenon.

Despite being on sale for less than a year, the battle royale game has quickly become one of the most popular Steam releases of all time, recently breaking 2 million concurrent players. With no signs of slowing down anytime soon, the title's player base just keeps on growing, and the number will no doubt skyrocket when the multiplayer game finally makes its way to consoles.

Unlike Fortnite, which more or less gets by on the novelty of its premise, PUBG offers a genuine battle royale experience that's deep and complex. Boasting a larger world, a more tactical style of play and way, way more ways to survive, the game is unlike anything else out there at the moment.

Whether played with friends or alone, the title is ridiculously engrossing, effortlessly facilitating 'one more match' gaming sessions that only end when you can't keep your eyes glued to the screen any longer.
