10 Most Addictive Video Games Of All Time

1. Tetris

Nothing can compare to this behemoth in terms of its addictive nature; there’s even rumours it was purposefully designed to be addictive by Russian game designer, Alexey Pajitnov. He was working at the Academy of Science of the USSR in the 80’s and made use of a puzzle style called Polyominoes which have been around since 1907.

Tetris is almost always top of the polls for Greatest Game of All Time and a version of the game has been released on virtually every console since its initial release in 1984 but what is it about arranging tiles accurately to make lines disappear that’s so addictive?

The sheer simplicity of the game makes it accessible to any audience but the ever increasing difficulty makes for a nightmarish challenge once you pass the first few levels. Tetris preys on the human instinct to improve and no one can deny there is serious satisfaction garnered from beating your own high score, never mind anyone elses.

Is the music designed to draw you in and work as a form of mind control? Probably not no; there are rumours but there’s little evidence to suggest the Russian government used Tetris to make its people calm and subservient. Is the music now stuck in your head like an irremovable earworm? Yes, it most certainly is.

Don’t worry, Tetris is readily available as a free online game if you need an instant fix!
