10 Most Addictive Video Games Of All Time
7. Grand Theft Auto III
With all the advancements and improvements Rockstar have added to their biggest title; it could easily have been Vice City, VI or V that was included on this list but nothing was quite so addictive, at the time, than Grand Theft Auto III.
Previous Grand Theft Auto titles had been played from an overhead perspective and weren’t particularly engaging and Rockstar knew this had to change. The Playstation 2’s compatibility with DVD’s opened up a whole new realm of possibilities thanks to the improved storage space of the discs – open world, 3D GTA was born.
Silent protagonists have always been present in gaming but Claude took it to a new level. The ludicrous missions he was asked to complete would’ve met with a lot of protestation from a speaking character; thankfully he kept quiet and we got to take on Liberty City’s criminal underbelly in some truly memorable missions.
Even just driving around the islands of Liberty City was enjoyable in itself. A brilliant soundtrack from the in car radios and the ability to carry out drive by shootings gave us all we needed to ramp up the wanted level and make the cops give chase. Whether you followed the story and completed the missions or not; you have to admit you were completely hooked on GTA III.
