6. Resident Evil 3 Remake

The Last Of Us 2 Ellie
Capcom

Release Date: 3 April

While everyone expected last year's Resident Evil 2 remake to be good, nobody thought it would be "game-of-the-year" good. But it absolutely was.

Taking a 20 year old game and giving it a modern spin by going from tank controls to third-person shooting (and with all the graphical enhancements you'd expect), the RE2 remake captured the terror of the original while updating its combat and movement to make it feel like a contemporary release, proving how timeless the game always was.

And so, with Capcom back once again to deliver the RE3 remake, there's no reason to assume that the upcoming title won't be equally as mesmerising.

The original RE3 was a lot more action-oriented than RE2, so it's going to be interesting to see how the developer chooses to evolve that style. Hopefully they don't go too far and make it a full-on shoot-em-up (characters have been reworked to look more action-ready, which is either a logical design choice or a big red flag) but the gameplay footage we've seen so far seems to contain the right mix of claustrophobic encounters and more open action scenes.

RE3 remake also comes packing a 1v4 multiplayer mode, which has a group of Survivors facing off against a powerful Mastermind. While not the main draw, it's loaded with potential, and is a nice way to sweeten the whole package.
