7. Hyrule Warriors Blends Dynasty Warriors And The Legend Of Zelda

Being one of the most popular characters in the Nintendo stable, it's no surprise that Link has made cameos in a variety of different games throughout the years. For the most part these have been limited to broader titles that feature a whole host of guest stars, but there is one time the world of Zelda was merged more significantly with a completely different franchise.

Hyrule Warriors, essentially a Dynasty Warriors sequel with a Zelda theme, released for the Wii U back in 2014 - and quickly became one of the console's best-selling titles.

Featuring the same hack-and-slash gameplay and missions as all Warriors games, everything, from the enemies to the playable characters to the locations you battled through, was designed to make the most of Zelda's vibrant history - despite the game itself taking place outside of the official Legend of Zelda canon.

It's a mashup that seems more than a bit strange on paper, but thanks to a great core game and an expansive stream of DLC, Hyrule Warriors resonated with fans of both franchises, and will no doubt enjoy a resurgence when it's re-released on the Nintendo Switch later in 2018.
