10 Most Beloved Video Game NPCs Of The Decade

6. John “Soap” McTavish (Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3)

Witcher 3 bloody baron
Activision

Our once playable protagonist makes a memorable appearance in the finale of the original Modern Warfare trilogy.

His incredible bravery, alongside his no-nonsense Scottish accent and mannerisms is what make him the quintessential army bro.

There is a strange sense of meeting yourself when we meet Soap in Modern Warfare 3, but you soon move past this to see a wonderfully written character. His actions throughout the game fit beautifully into the story of both the individual game and the franchise as a whole, that even in a game this bonkers and action movie inspired, Soap intentions and actions stand out as genuine.

In an annual franchise full of revolving characters, for Soap to stand out as an all-time favourite just goes to show the impact he has had on many people beyond the action.
