10 Most Breathtaking Moments In Video Game History
3. Entering Rapture - Bioshock
The original Bioshock has one of the strongest opening moments of any video game; one that immediately draws you in with its simple set up and then wows you with a reveal that lets you know that you're in for a great game.
After some cryptic narration from your character and an off screen plane crash, you find yourself stranded in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by wreckage and twisted metal. Your only salvation is a mysterious lighthouse. Inside is a bathysphere that takes you below the ocean surface to Rapture, an underwater sovereign city from the idealistic mind of its creator, Andrew Ryan.
The tension, the atmosphere, and the build up to the reveal of Rapture is what makes this such a jaw-dropping moment. The architecture is as much intimidating as it is alluring, a fact made more so by the mysterious and sinister mood surrounding it; an indication of what lies inside. It is dark and claustrophobic; a flawlessly executed opening to a game that is destined to be regarded as a classic.
