10 Most BROKEN Video Game Launches Of The Generation
8. Anthem
Another fine example of end product not delivering on what was advertised, Anthem could have been so much better than it was.
We were promised jetpacks, awesome Iron Man-esque suits and lush environments to explore and battle in with your friends. What gamers got, however, was a barely serviceable world that looked bland and gameplay even blander. Oh, and cosmetic microtransactions, because EA.
But behind the scenes, the writing was on the wall before the game was released. Engine issues, key Bioware players leaving the team and no clear core direction were already flying red flags for Anthem.
What should have been Bioware's return to grace after another disappointment in this list again drew the same parallels. It was bland, it was buggy as an online game and the repetition hit hard.
It did have some merit, especially in its Class and Javelin customisation. When it did work, playing with some friends was fun, if a little uninspired.
But such was the lacklustre response that Bioware have promised to return with Anthem 2.0: a polished and more refined experience.
