Released in 2002, Allied Assault is the third game in the Medal of Honor series, and contains a mission that is sure to test your patience. This level, Operation Overlord, depicts one of the most infamous battles of World War II, and is thus, understandably, as long as it is arduous.

This mission is composed of three distinct sections: Omaha Beach, Battle in the Bocage, and The Nebelwerfer Hunt, and together make for a challenging and chaotic experience. Make no mistake, you will die a lot upon first playthrough. The enemy has plenty of cover, can camouflage with the environment, and can pin you down with surprising accuracy, making the sniper rifle your best friend, though that doesn’t make them pushovers either. And since your computer controlled allies are actually useful, it’s probably a good idea to try to keep them alive.

Perseverance, endurance, and a healthy knowledge of the level layout are necessary to see this mission to the end. It’s a great, really well put together level that makes you feel, if for the briefest moment, that you are fighting for your life in a moment of time we can only imagine.
