10 Most Criminally Over-Looked PS3 Games You Never Played
Eternal Sonata is hands-down one of my favorite current-gen video games. It melds all the quirkiness of your typical JRPG with a fantastic soundtrack, historical themes, and an unexpected plot twist. I picked it up on a lark when I had some extra time and some credit at my local gaming store. It kept jumping out at me, plus the price was right, so I took a chance on this crazy-looking game. I started playing immediately and didn't come out of the game world for several days, except when physically necessary. This game hooked me good!
Throughout the game, players control a variety of characters with unique abilities. A fantastic light/dark mechanic enables a character to perform different actions in battle depending on their locations. The combat system is turn-based, forcing players to contemplate their strategies before rushing in wildly. Level grinding felt repetitive at times, but I have yet to find a game where this is truly not an issue. The story was fantastic, and interludes of Chopin's music overlaying scenes and pictures from history actually taught me something useful. Plot twists and character backstories often brought a rush of emotions; I'm pretty sure I actually cried a couple of times. When I finished the game, I was left thinking about it for days. What I love about the PS3 version of this game is that is has extra content and more playable characters, making it a truly great PS3 title.
