10 Most Criminally Overlooked Video Games Of 2018
7. Into The Breach
Speaking of turn-based combat, Into the Breach is the old-school top-down method refined to perfection.
Developed by FTL's Subset Games, they've carried across that game's immaculate balancing act of weapons and vehicle upgrades to a war of machines and monsters. Here you're tasked with fending off a kaiju infestation with the knowledge that your crew has already died, and you are the one sole survivor, travelling back in time to try again.
Unlocks and mech progression are tied to whichever team is active at the time, as following a reset you'll be left with one individual to do it all over once more. This is the crux of Into the Breach, and what forces you to really analyse precisely where creatures are going to move to, and what you can do to stop them.
Citizens need saving, buildings need protecting and occasionally, side objectives need completing - all of which results in better gear for your current run.
How far you'll get, how well you can learn from your mistakes and who you choose to take back in time though, is all up to you.
