7. Kirby Star Allies

Sadly, Kirby's latest entry on Switch wasn't the head-turning delight his Wii U Epic Yarn tale was, but Star Allies is still a solid, charming-as-hell platformer with the series' signature costume changing mechanics intact.

In fact, Star Allies introduces the idea of combining more than one ability at once. Using your new partners and the buddy system, you can "call" for a power to be mixed together - bringing about flaming swords, electrified water attacks, super jumps and a TON more.

This introduction of a co-op Kirby experience is also what kinda... breaks the game.

Kirby's level designs just aren't built to be tackled by up to four of him, and gameplay can become a mess of power-ups and one-hit-killed enemies, eliminating the satisfaction of actually getting to use your badass powers on a host of baddies.

The "fix" is actively dismissing your followers every time to force Star Allies into a single-player mould, though this contrivance isn't something that would - or should - get factored into more objective review coverage.
