10 Most Difficult Decisions You Are Forced To Make In Mass Effect
6. Bring Balak To Justice Or Save His Hostages
The Bring Down the Sky downloadable mission offers a classic moral dilemma for players to consider. Is it more important to stop the bad guys, or save innocent lives? What if stopping a dangerous criminal will save more lives in the long run? Is it worth bringing them to justice if you can't protect the lives of the innocent? This is the final choice the player will have to make in this DLC, and will force players to question their own priorities. After foiling his plot to destroy a nearby colony, Balak, the dangerous leader of a group of batarian terrorists out to repay humanity for their injustices, plays one last trick. In a final-ditch effort to escape, Balak threatens to execute a group of hostages unless you let him escape. Choosing to fight and kill him results in the deaths of several innocent people, putting you into a bit of an awkward position. There's no real way to know which answer is ideal, and it sucks no matter what you do. It's just not fair. Doing the right thing means giving up your chance for sweet retribution against Balak, who has more than earned it. Having a climactic boss battle with the main villain means killing a lot of innocent people, but perhaps that can be justified, if Balak can be stopped. After all, if someone threatens the destruction of a colony once, they'll surely do it again, right? At least, that's what you tell yourself at night.
