10 Most Difficult Decisions You Are Forced To Make In Mass Effect
5. Ensure The Safety Of Your Squad Or Save The Normandy Crew
This is a choice not all players will have to make, but anyone who tests the Collector IFF without being 100% prepared for the suicide mission into the Omega-4 Relay will be forced to make a difficult decision. When Shepard and all of his squadmates leave the ship (all at once, at the same time, because that makes sense), the crippled pilot Joker is left defenceless when the Collectors launch a surprise attack and abduct the Normandy crew. If you haven't done all of the loyalty side missions and fully upgraded the Normandy, members of your squad will die. At this point in the game, the longer you delay charging in and initiating the final mission to save the crew, the more crew members will die. If you aren't fully prepared, you'll have to leave members to a horrifying fate, or rush in to save them, and be prepared to lose some party members. This can be avoided altogether by being fully prepared before using the IFF, but for players unaware of this surprise attack, a harrowing choice awaits them. As contrived as it is, it's one hell of a curve ball that puts you into a tough situation with no happy ending for the Normandy, making it one of the harder choices to make, all without directly telling you that there's a decision to make.
Ken was born in 1994, and before the turn of the century, he was already a gamer for life, starting with Pokémon Blue Version. He has a passion for storytelling, especially in the gaming medium. Growing up on a healthy diet of JRPGs and point and click adventure games, young Kenny grew up playing Nintendo and Sony consoles, before becoming a snobby member of the PC Master Race. Nowadays, he resides in a time warp, refusing to believe the nineties ended as he fills up his Steam library with old point and clicks and cRPGs.
