10 Most Disappointing Games of 2012

1. Game Of Thrones: The Game

Game Of Thrones

After having read the books and watched the TV show, there's no question why I bought the game: if it was anything like its namesake, it was bound for greatness. It was no Skyrim, but it looked good from the pre-release material, but I learned soon afterwards how wrong I truly was. The first strike against the game was something I noticed in the first ten minutes of playing: the dialogue was dry and was presented with little enthusiasm or purpose. I could live with bad voice acting, but the music killed me - the game utilized the music from the TV show, but didn't get it right. The music itself was superb, but because of the sound cutting in and out constantly, it became very annoying. The second strike for Game Of Thrones was its graphics: the main characters looked fine, but all supporting characters and other AI was terrible. The environments, which also should have been a spectacle, were an eyesore, and there had been clearly little effort to fix them. The gameplay itself was extremely repetitive but shined when you were asked to make a choice - that was the highlight of the game for me, and the only reason I replayed the story. Every choice you made really did effect your character's ending, which was fun and immersive, but despite a passable RPG aspect, the game failed in every other category. An avid reader of films and TV shows, Costandinos Karalis enjoys nearly every genre and sub-genre known to mankind. His week usually consists of eating cereal and writing. Occasionally he will enter productive mode and actually do something, but until then, he keeps up-to-date on everything that Doctor Who and DC Comics have to offer.
