10 Most Disastrous Releases Of The Current Generation
6. Mortal Kombat 1 (Switch)
What the hell happened here?
NetherRealm Studios did themselves proud when they ported Mortal Kombat 11 to Switch, producing a worthy handheld counterpart to the meatier home console versions. Sacrifices were made in frame rate and graphical quality, but MK11's Switch version was a solid example of how to port a demanding game to Nintendo's underpowered console.
Yet between the development of Mortal Kombats 11 and 1, NetherRealm Studios forgot two things: how to count, and how to port their games to Switch.
MK 1's Switch port was atrocious. A severe graphical downgrade from Mortal Kombat 11, appalling load times, distractingly blurry graphics and missing animations meant that the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 was inexcusably inferior to the versions released on other consoles.
Unfortunately, all versions of Mortal Kombat 1 are going through a crisis as rumours abound that future expansions have been cancelled due to disappointing sales. Just a thought, but maybe if NetherRealm Studios had give the console with the biggest userbase a respectable port they'd have sold more copies...
