Mukuro Ikusaba enters the Killing Game in the first Danganronpa game disguised as her twin sister, Junko Enoshima. As the Ultimate soldier, it is stated in-game that Mukuro never received any wounds in battle and was part of Fenrir, an elite fighting force.

This makes her death even more disturbing, because not only is Mukuro betrayed by her sister, but she is ruthlessly impaled on many spears, as an example to the others. Mukuro does not die instantly, so she has time to express her shock and see just how her sister has destroyed her previous successes on the battlefield.

Junko's motivations for this betrayal add to the disturbing nature of this death, because it was solely to create a greater sense of despair for herself. The two had colluded to pretend Mukuro (disguised as Junko) had been killed for breaking the rules, but Junko decided on a whim to betray her sister.

Mukuro's body was then used as a prop by Junko to create confusion about the identity of the victim in Chapter 5 and potentially lead the other students to their own demise. Junko then proceeds to blow up the body, demonstrating just how little she regrets Mukuro's death.
