https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msMehuZo3x8 This list wouldn't be complete without acknowledging the advertising campaign for the PlayStation 2, which was the first time Sony decided to focus on just creating bizarre, brilliant ads that stay in your memory forever, rather than focusing on directly showing off games and hardware. David Lynch's 'Welcome To The Third Place' is - as you'd expect - weirdness done in the best possible way, successfully depicting the PlayStation 2 as a portal into a strange uncharted dimension. Of course, the style will be instantly familiar to David Lynch fans, but applying it to a PS2 ad was a stroke of genius on Sony's part. In true Lynchian fashion, the ad doesn't offer itself to easy interpretation, but this helped feed into the image of the PS2 as some mysterious 'other' entity - it made you curious. This was exemplary of Sony's awesomely weird PS2 commercials, which surely played their small part in making it the world's best-selling games console to this day.
