2. Atari Jaguar - The Most Desperate Ad In The World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxuna944dls What do adolescent kids hate the most in the whole world? Pissy teachers? That's one? Maths? Yep. Classrooms? Obviously. OK, so let's throw all those things together to try and convince them to buy the Atari Jaguar! As well as creating a setting in which literally no one wanted to be in, this Jaguar ad made the mistake of doing nothing but scream at you that 64 bits are better than 32 or 16. It just feels so desperate. There's no metaphorical meaning here either, just an angry teacher (exactly the sort you'd hate in school) berating a class full of idiots for not wanting a Jaguar. It's probably exactly what the executives at Atari were thinking: "What don't you little sh**s understand? The Jaguar is 64-bit, Sega Genesis is 16-bit, so why the f**k isn't everyone buying the Jaguar?!? It's simple maths." Sadly for Atari didn't grasp that a console isn't just about the bits or the maths - a good games library and a controller that doesn't rely on a telephone keypad are pretty important too. Furthermore, using 'bits' as the basis for arguing your console's the best is fanboyism at its most incorrigible - which makes it hard to feel any sympathy for the catastrophic failure of the Atari Jaguar.
