Dragon Age: Origins was a love letter to the fantasy genre, and whilst it’s not exactly aged well in terms of graphics, it can still be called one of the greatest fantasy games of all time. The combat, story and characters combined to create one of the most detailed and engaging experiences for fantasy nerds.

Truth be told, the game has its share of dragons. From the multitude of smaller drake enemies, to the High Dragon, the game knows how to do dragons. But none as epic and brilliant as the Archdemon.

The climatic end to the game has the player and their chosen party fighting through a war torn Denerim to face off against the Archdemon, the corrupt god and leader of Blight. And not mention a giant awesome dragon that is the big bad of the entire game. Serving as an effective test of the player’s skills and ability to manoeuvre their party, the boss is challenging and well designed. Not to mention, it’s a sick looking dragon.

For such a great game to end with such a brilliant fight and to have one of the most heroic or gut-wrenching moments as you or Alistair choose to take down the beast, sacrificing him or yourself in the process, is simply brilliant. The ending is a perfect end to a great game, with one of the best fights in history, let alone one of the best dragon boss fights. It also is one of the most epic moments as you face down the end with your companions that you’ve spent an entire game getting to know and fighting alongside. Just pure awesomeness.

Or you can mess up your entire game, have all your companions leave you in the end and get stuck with your least favourite characters to fight the boss and lose all dramatic tension by doing so. But only an idiot would do that… right?
