10 Most Essential PS4 Exclusives - Ranked

4. Nioh

Team Ninja

Speaking of Souls games, Team Ninja were clearly watching the development and reception of FromSoft's games, all the while thinking , "WE were the ones that pioneered b*stard-hard games with Ninja Gaiden, NOT YOU"

As such, they actually had Nioh on the backburner for years, finally releasing it in 2017 after 10 years of iterations and refinements to its core formula. Thankfully, unlike Final Fantasy XV, the end product is one that feels passionate, confident and ostensibly, like a return to form for a studio that were fast becoming known for releasing skimpier swimsuit costumes in Dead or Alive.

Nioh's razor blade-accurate combat comes with three stances, tons of weapons and armour, the same Dark Souls mechanic of recovering your lost currency if you can make it back to where you died in one piece - and a phenomenal loot system where if you defeat the ghost of another player, you get some of what they were carrying.

Like Lords of the Fallen, it's been fascinating to see other developers use the Souls games as a genre template, as this is one of the most proficient third-person action games of all time.
