10 Most Essential PS4 Exclusives - Ranked
5. Bloodborne
It remains to be seen just how much FromSoftware will take Bloodborne as an entity and run with it, being they've since retired Dark Souls, but still, Sony's exclusive Souls-like was an early highlight of 2015, showing the studio's penchant for animation-prioritising combat works outside of a pure fantasy setting.
Indeed, Bloodborne is positively Lovecraftian in its world and enemy design, combining all sorts of cosmological and alien designs with pulped flesh, tentacles and other freakishly nightmarish imagery. Put it this way: One boss looks like a huge dog that's been pulled inside out, its 'sheets' of flesh billowing in the breeze as it bays for your blood.
Lovely.
At this stage you know whether you're a 'Souls guy/gal' or not, but the point remains: These games are meticulously balanced, test your gaming mettle in a very old school way that's ultimately insanely rewarding, and Bloodborne in particular tells a story that already has a ton of interpretations online.
Don't go in expecting a free ride or anything other than a hack n' slasher that forces you to stay on your toes, and you'll only come away wanting more.
