10 Most Frustrating Spells For Dungeon Masters
6. Conjure Woodland Beings
If you want a surefire way to irritate the everyone at the table, this is the spell to do it. Now, that shouldn't discount players from using it, but there is such an aura of disdain on it, that players need to be very careful in their approach.
Simply put, this spell lets nature-based spellcasters bring forth a whole host of extra fey creatures. Even worse, the books specifically says the Dungeon Master has the statistics, thereby making it their responsibility to provide you with every possible selection a player could make.
Used in combat, this slows down things enormously, with an additional 1-8 additional creatures requiring their own turns, turning a thrilling battle into an absolute slog.
Worse still is the infamous "Pixie/Polymorph" special. With this spell, players can bring forth 8 Pixies, each with the ability to cast things like Polymorph and Invisibility. As long as you keep those little flying critters safe, that essentially gives the entire group over 150 bonus hit points at no cost to themselves and the potential to move about unseen.
All of that at the cost of a 4th level spell. At that point, why even have a combat encounter?
