10 Most Hated Enemy Types In Gaming
4. One-Shot Kills Regardless Of Anything
One of the cheapest ways game developers have attempted to raise the stakes and make boss battles feel more grandiose over the years has been through an especially unfair mechanic involving one-shot instant kills.
How much of a challenge a video game should be is an entirely subjective discussion, and one that every gamer is going to have their own opinions on. Some might claim that the whole purpose of a title is to spend a decent amount of time dying so there's that sense of achievement come to the end of a playthrough.
But, when there's a seemingly neverending flurry of deaths all coming from doing something as minor as stepping a toe in an enemy's line of sight, it starts to border a bit on the ridiculous.
The problem with this design stems mainly from how there's no off-shooting benefit players can get in return. No problem with high difficulty or a boss taking advantage of a certain build in an RPG, but when developers have to lean on insta-killing players it speaks more about their ability to design a fulfilling video game enemy more than anything else.
