10 Most Iconic Images From Gaming History

1. The Invasion - Space Invaders

So here we are, at number one and if you ask me, it really was a no brainer. Put it this way; in effect, Space Invaders invented modern gaming. When it's creator, Tomohiro Nishikado, initially produced the game he found that it lagged heavily due to hardware constraints when all of the invaders were onscreen. But, as more and more were destroyed, memory was freed up and the game incrementally increased in speed. Et voila, incremental difficulty in gaming was suddenly invented and almost entirely by accident. The industry has never looked back. In its heyday, Space Invaders, thanks to its newfangled incremental difficulty, enjoyed unbelievable success as an arcade machine and has since been re licensed for several new iterations and remakes. Even if you've never played the game in your life, I can bet my life on the fact that you have seen the above image before and will see it again many, many times after today. If you're a gamer, you're arguably looking at the source of all modern games, and let's face it, it just doesn't get more iconic than that. So there are our picks for ten most iconic images in gaming history. Anything you'd contest? Anything you'd add? Do let us know, eh?
