1. Scorpion's Spear

Mortal Kombat co-creator, Ed Boon, loves when a character performs a special move that sets up another attack. He calls this concept "a free hit". Throughout the series, there have been many kombatants who can perform a free hit including Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, and Kabal.

However, the most famous character in Mortal Kombat at setting up an extra attack has to be Scorpion. Even though his teleport punch is effective and his Toasty Fatality is legendary, the ninja spectre is best-known for his Spear Throw. (Technically, it's a kunai but let's just call it a spear.)

The Shirai Ryu warrior's attack is extremely effective for two reasons. Firstly, he drags his enemy towards him, meaning Scorpion doesn't have to waste time running over to them to perform an extra hit. Secondly, stabbing his opponent with the spear causes damage, even if they block. Although the damage is minor, anyone who's played as the yellow-robed assassin can tell you chucking a spear at their rival when their enemy's health bar is flashing "Danger" can decide a match.

Despite the hundreds of Fatalities we've witnessed, there's nothing more satisfying in MK than Scorpion hurling his spear while crying out, "GET OVER HERE!"
