10 Most Iconic Street Fighter Special/Super Moves
4. Sonic Boom
Used By: Guile, Charlie, Seth
First Appearance: Street Fighter II
Input: Charge Back + Kick (Guile & Charlie), Quarter-Circle Forward + Punch (Seth)
Guile’s introduction into Street Fighter II brought not only an iconic theme and his iconic hair, but an iconic projectile attack which Guile has utilised ever since. The Sonic Boom is a ki-based attack, similar to Sagat’s ‘Tiger Shot’ which Guile can generate by flicking his arms, creating a spinning arc which flies out towards his opponent. Whether this motion generates an actual sonic boom from Guile's arms is somewhat debatable. In any case, Guile is able to use this attack to great effect throughout most Street Fighter games, making him a deadly zoner character due to the ability to perform the move from a blocking state.
Starting with his introduction in Street Fighter Alpha, Charlie, Guile’s close friend and commanding officer, is also able to utilise the Sonic Boom attack, an ability he retains when he resurfaced in Street Fighter V. Seth, the final boss of Street Fighter IV, also has the ability to use the Sonic Boom attack. This is due to Seth’s unique ability to copy the techniques of other fighters. Both Charlie and Seth differ slightly in their execution of the move, however, as they are able to execute the technique with just a single arm, whereas Guile is only ever seen performing Sonic Boom with both arms.
