10 Most Iconic Swords In Gaming History

7. Excalibur

Assassin S Creed Valhalla Excalibur

You don’t have to be any kind of gamer to know about Excalibur and while mythology suggests this magical pointy boy was given to King Arthur by a lady in a lake, in video games it can be wielded by you which in my book makes you every bit as regal. Back to Final Fantasy, and not for the last time, this sword crops up in a number of entries as one of the final weapons available to you, replete with enviable offensive stats, and the ability to deal extra damage to every enemy type making it even stronger than the Masamune.

We’re going to be a little cheeky and throw The Witcher 3’s Aerondight into this category, too, as you also get it from a lake-dwelling lady after displaying chivalric virtues. Aerondight’s power comes from its unique ability to level alongside you and deal extra damage for every consecutive hit, topping out at quadruple its already enormous base damage. One of the blade’s most recent appearances is in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla where you can obtain it after a massive quest in which you need to find 11 tablets scattered around the game world. A trip beneath Stonehenge, some parkouring, moderate puzzling, and bear battling later and you’ll have the fancy sword in your inventory. It is capable of blinding enemies and doling out energy blasts.

Within the game’s lore it is one of the Swords of Eden crafted by Hephaestus so it’s handy that Arthur got it out of that lake and hid it underground for you.
