10 Most Inappropriate Video Game Storylines Ever Written
5. Hatred
A game that was described by its own developers as a reaction to political correctness and recent video game trends, Hatred manages to be almost completely devoid of any real purpose.
Besides letting the player run around as a mass murdering lunatic, that is.
There's no problem with this concept, after all GTA and many of its successors have always been rife with the same gameplay encouragements. The difference however, lies almost entirely in how the games handle their narratives and thematics.
In GTA, the plot is rarely about killing and destruction on the grand scale (and even when it is, it's done tongue in cheek to disassociate itself from real world violence.) But in Hatred, the main character, called The Antagonist, is entirely devoted to killing and destroying as much as he can, all for the sake of human society and the "disgusting world" he lives in.
Worse still, he actually succeeds.
When The Antagonist dies at the end, he manages to also set off a nuclear reactor, killing millions in the surrounding area and cementing his ideology at the nuclear level.
The saddest thing is that gameplay isn't even good, so there is literally no reason at all to play Hatred.
