10 Most Infuriating Water Levels In Gaming History

8. Manaan Underwater (Knights of the Old Republic)

Kotor Knights of the Old Republic was essentially the mould for what would become Mass Effect. It€™s rightly regarded as one of Bioware€™s best games: taking their talent for rich, engaging stories and empathy evoking characters and applying it to Stars Wars universe. What could go wrong? A lengthy water section, obviously. So, why is it infuriating? Oh, why indeed. Well, to withstand the crushing pressures of the Manaan depths, the player character is forced to wear a cumbersome deep sea suit. The only problem is that you move slower than a mule that doesn€™t care that Darth Malak is well on his way to conquering the galaxy. As with all levels in KOTOR, the underwater sections of Manaan are fairly sprawling; and to say the lackadaisical movement speed is irritating is definitely an understatement. The watery depths are also home to the little bastards known as Firaxan sharks, which can outrun and kill you in seconds. You€™re armed with a sonic emitter (who wants to play with Lightsabers anyway) that can make short work of the Firaxans €“ provided they don€™t surprise attack you, or the emitter actually deigns to work. You€™re forced to fight through them, so it becomes particularly annoying if you€™re killed by a stray Firaxan and haven€™t saved in a while. But I could forgive all those prior transgressions if it wasn€™t for the puzzle with the Kolto tanks. I€™d rather spend a romantic evening with the Wolves of Périgord than go through that again.
