6. Dead Space
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTItM0B9dwE Yes, just about anyone who has ever seen Paul W.S. Anderson's Event Horizon has remarked how much this game resembles that rather underrated movie, but that's hardly a bad thing given how Anderson's movie oozes atmosphere, and some of that appears to have transpired through to this game, alongside its immense goriness. Right from the second we kill our first Necromorph in the first game, we're told that they have to be stomped into pieces so that they can't crawl around and try to get us, meaning that the game is a relentlessly gory one from the get-go. Shoot a Necro and watch it grow a new limb; that's not good enough. You have to brutalise these bad boys, and as such the game encourages you to be as creatively murderous as you possibly can, employing the game's wide variety of weapons to whatever effect you can imagine. What's even better, though, is when the tables are turned on Isaac, and he's brutally murdered in any number of inventive ways by the game's enemy horde. There are a ton of animations - most featured in the above video - that have been rendered to ensure that even if you die, you die in style. Bloody, brutal style.
