6. Tetris
Way back in July 1989, Nintendo launched its multi-million selling Game Boy in North America and it was bundled with a little puzzle game by the name of Tetris, arguably the best and definitely the most successful puzzle game of all time. With its crazily addictive gameplay it is a formula that many have tried to improve on or adapt and yet you could very much argue that every subsequent version of Tetris has been inferior to the original with only the graphics being improved over the years. Although Tetris itself had been around in one guise or another since 1984, it was the genius decision to package it with the Gameboy at launch that really propelled both it and Nintendo's handheld into our hearts. It brilliantly showed how the handheld console would be at its best, with simple and addictive titles. In fact the gameplay is so addictive that a friend and I played competitive Tetris (where my completed lines were dropped onto his screen and vice versa) for the vast majority of an 8 hour flight from Chicago. A timeless classic.
