10 Most Intimidating Dark Souls Enemies
1. Ornstein And Smough
Atmosphere is everything in Dark Souls. OK, maybe not everything. There's a lot getting hit in the face. But it plays a huge part in making the player feel both pressured and awestruck at the same time.
Welcome to Anor Londo. A gorgeous, sprawling city of castle-esque architecture bathed in an ever-present sunset. The regal design evokes an air of pomp and circumstance (indeed, Anor Londo is a city home to powerful deities), which impresses upon the player just how lethal and grand this place is. Make your way through the city's towering cathedral, and you'll find a wall of grey mist at the far end of the entrance hall. Enter Dark Souls' two most formidable warriors.
OK, technically, these are two separate enemies, but Ornstein and Smough share Dark Souls' greatest bromance, and fight together during their encounter. Until you kill one of them, and then the other gets super pissed off, absorbs the essence of his dead mate, and then fights you with increased power and health. So that's nice.
The pair are reflective of the city itself; imposing, austere, noble, and a bloody great pain in the arse. Ornstein, the smaller, slimmer dragon slayer, flits about the area launching lightning bolts at you, whilst Smough lurches around trying to flatter you with his giant hammer. The music playing during this battle ramps up the pressure, as does all the best Dark Souls instrumentals. One wrong move, and you'll find it hard to reorient yourself.
Absolute mad lads.
