10 Most Likely DLC Characters For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

If the latest buzz around town is anything to go by, Devil May Cry's Dante is a very likely choice for the next Smash Bros. DLC character.

These rumors carry a lot of weight, as they come almost entirely from the mouths of people with authority on the subject.

It all began with a 2018 Twitter poll from former DMC director Hideki Kamiya, in which he asked which Capcom/PlatinumGames character they would rather see in Smash. Dante won by a sizable margin, beating out Okami's Amaterasu, Wonderful 101's Wonder Red, and Viewtiful Joe. What's particularly significant about this is that Kamiya is known for making decisions on future projects using Twitter polls.

Furthermore, V's voice actor from Devil May Cry 5 (Brian Hanford) seemingly-accidentally remarked during a 2019 interview that "to be part of Marvel vs Capcom or Super Smash Bros. would be huge, which is what Dante is going to be".

Finally, there is a theory floating around called "M Theory," which alleges that franchise logos alone can affect the ESRB rating of a game. For example, when Altair and Vault Boy were added as Mii Costumes, Smash did not include the Assassins Creed nor the Fallout logos in their North American reveal trailers. This theory shows that there is a workaround for getting characters from M-rated games, such as Dante, into the game.

And hey, it would certainly be an upgrade from Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale...
